Document Automation Guide

1. Introduction

Our platform allows you to automate documents. The main element of document automation is template, which is a generic document applicable to similar legal matters. Based on such template, you can generate final and more specific documents just by answering questions.

Lawyers prepare templates together with relevant Q&As for their clients, personal usage or such other purpose. The presence of any clause, paragraph, sentence or word in a final document can be rendered dependent on the specific answers to some question. Moreover, in each case the list of questions that need to be answered is dynamic and depends on the answers provided so far.

Questions are categorized as follows:

Answers to closed questions are categorized as follows:

As described below, LawyerHill provides the interface for creating templates and downloading final documents that are tailored to your specific needs.

2. Generating & Downloading Documents

Every template has a dedicated page where you can generate and download a final document.

To this end, you just need to complete a form with the list of closed and open questions.

The data that you enter is neither sent nor saved anywhere except your own computer.

Currently, documents can be downloaded only in .docx format.

3. Creating & Uploading Templates

Templates are prepared on your own computer in Microsoft Word (Word 2016 or later on Windows, Word on iPad and Mac, as well as Word Online) document (format .docx) and then uploaded to our servers using our add-in LawyerHill-Docs. For that purpose you need to have an active lawyer or organization profile.

3.1. Install the Add-In

Microsoft Word has a dedicated Office Store with available add-ins. However, at the moment our add-in is not yet published there since we do not yet have a registered company.

Therefore, to install and use our add-in, you will currently need to sideload it according to this tutorial of Microsoft. In short, you just have to download this manifest.xml file and share it with your Word application.

3.2. Sign-In

The add-in will prompt you to sign in. After signing in, you will have access to the interface for preparing templates.

3.3. Create & Upload

The add-in is simple and intuitive. No programming skill is required, no variables in the text, etc.

Create and draft your document as usual or copy the text from an existing document.

When you want to attach a clause, paragraph, sentence or word to answers to a question, select text in your document and enter the respective question and answer in the add-in.

You can find more information about questions and answers in "Introduction" section above. Also, the add-in has additional instructions about adding and removing questions with answers.

Once your template is ready, enter a document name and upload it to our server. By default, an uploaded template is private, but you can change its visibility to public at any time. That's it, you can then find and use your template on LawyerHill.

3.4. Configure

You can configure uploaded templates in your profile. For example, you can make them public so that other users can download them or private to be used only by you or your organization. We recommend that at least some templates are public to showcase your legal drafting skills.

You can also specify a country and applicable fields of law for templates so that it is easier to find them.

Moreover, you can give any other user, whether registered or not, a temporary access to your private templates by generating an access key and setting the date and time when it expires.
